Golden Filter Makes ‘Solid Gold’ Music
Richie Adomako / July 13, 2009
Golden Filter’s rare appearance and performance at the Tribeca Grand on Saturday was nothing short of ‘solid gold’. The group has some ‘mystery’ about them. Sadly, looking up information leaves more to be desired on what goes behind their music. Regardless, there is certainly no mystery to their music. With a 70’s melodic disco sound fused with harmony, synth, beats and drums, they have been compared to Blondie and others for their stage work and presence. Beyond that, they also make great mixes. Among them are Peter Bjorn and John, Cut Copy, Little Boots and more. From blog darlings to opening for the Presets on their North American tour this past spring, the members of Golden Filter may not use their names (not even on their own website), but the group from New York City is certainly making a name for themselves.
We had to catch them at the Tribeca Grand to see if we could find something into their mystery. The only thing we were able to confirm is that they are working on an album (as they have yet to release one) and the lead singer, Penelope, moves with grace. Despite the sound engineer’s inability to turn up her vocals, they put on a good show. They closed their set with their track ‘Solid Gold’ – drawing the diverse crowd towards the stage for a closer listen. The keys player Stephen was remarkable – switching back and forth to floor toms and banging on them thunderously as if to shake the room.
With charisma on the stage and great mixes off the stage, Golden Filter is a new music talent worth following. Despite their mystery, I look forward to hearing what they have coming up and how they will unravel their musical talents.
