London Calling: Lovebox, FabricLive and The Creators Project (Take 2)
Marjana Jaidi / June 29, 2010
It may sound backwards to plan the dates of our vacation around the layover, but when we found out we’d be flying through the dubstep capital of the world on our way to Greece, we couldn’t resist. Our weekend of choice? July 16-19… find out why, after the jump.
LOVEBOX
Venue: Victoria Park (110 Grove Road, London E3)
Date: Friday, July 16 – Sunday, July 18
Doors Open: 2 PM on Friday / 12 Noon on Saturday + Sunday
Price: General Admission £45-£99 / VIP £95-£185 [Tickets]
The Lovebox Music Festival in Victoria Park features a massive line-up that spans multiple genres, with a good balance between bands and DJs. Live acts include Mark Ronson and the Business INTL, Hot Chip, Peaches, Chromeo, Cut Copy, New Young Pony Club, Yeasayer, Noisettes, Ellie Goulding, Holy Ghost and Dizzee Rascal. For all the bass fans out there, Friday is definitely not to be missed – Crookers, Doorly, Sinden, Todd Edwards, Zombie Disco Squad, MJ Cole and Cooly G are just some of the amazing artists scheduled to grace the decks. We’d give high marks across all three days, except for one thing… where are the Scissor Sisters?
FABRICLIVE
Venue: Fabric (77A Charterhouse Street, London EC1M 6HJ)
Date: Friday, July 16
Doors Open: 10 PM
Price: £15 [Tickets]
A trip through the musical landmarks of London wouldn’t be complete without a stop at Fabric, the legendary nightclub that is also responsible for the Fabriclive CD series. Choosing a weekend based on the scheduled line-up was a no-brainer (although the weekend of July 9 was a very close second) – Dub Police will be taking over Room One with DJ sets by Caspa, Breakage, The Others, Emalkay and more. Egyptrixx, Mumdance (both of whom recently played Trouble & Bass events) and over a dozen other artists will hold things down in the venue’s remaining two rooms.
THE CREATORS PROJECT
Venue: Victoria House (37 Southampton Row, Camden, London WC1B 4DA)
Date: Saturday, July 17
Doors Open: 10 AM
Price: Free [more info]
After checking out the launch event in New York City last Saturday, we are absolutely ecstatic that we’ll have the chance to do it all again in London. Of course, it won’t be the same experience – while a few of the artists and exhibits will travel, the London installment of the Vice and Intel global summit will has its own unique line-up, ready to stimulate our senses from all angles. Mark Ronson & The Business INTL, Kele Okereke (Bloc Party), Filthy Dukes, Trevor Jackson, Mumdance, Flats, Yuck and Hudson Mohawke are all scheduled to perform. The art exhibition will be open to the public during the day, but tickets will be required for the evening performances – be sure to register while you still can.
