TONIGHT: The HiFi Cartel One Year Anniversary Party

It’s hard to believe that it’s been a year since we started… but here we are. We wouldn’t have made it through the year without all you party people, so tonight we’re bringing you some of our favorite DJs from the past year (Shuttle, The Captain and Jubilee), along with a dash of fresh meat (Asian Dan, Spectacal) to collectively form a line-up that we are super excited about.

Come out to White Rabbit (145 East Houston Street) tonight to help us fête the occasion. The festivities begin at 10 PM – get there early for drink specials during the first hour, and be sure to RSVP HERE for complimentary admission.

Find out more about tonight’s DJs and sample some of their music… after the jump.

Last January, Shuttle (aka Nate Donmoyer) blew us away with his DJ set at Webster Hall, which in my eyes, is still the best set I’ve seen all year. Though he’s known to many as the drummer of Passion Pit, Shuttle’s solo sound is a completely different musical venture, one that we highly recommend that you check out. A good place to start? The Orion Mixtape, where he handpicks choice cuts from UK’s garage and funky scene and seamlessly fuses them into one hundred plus minutes of pure bass joy. Listen to it below, or head over to Asian Dan’s blog to read an exclusive Q&A with Shuttle and for a free download of the mixtape.

Trouble & Bass has been an important part of our first year, and a celebration of that year wouldn’t feel complete without their presence. The Captain (aka Patrick Rood), was our first introduction into the Trouble & Bass world, and he consistently keeps the T&B signature parties stocked with a variety of bass-driven beats. CLICK HERE to check out our recent interview with the Trouble & Bass crew, and listen to The Captain’s  Smashcast below (subscribe HERE).

Our first year also saw the conception of the Chinatown rave that we’ve come to know and love as “Flashing Lights”. Every month, DJ Ayres, Nick Catchdubs (who DJed our kick-off event last year) and Jubilee transform an ordinary dim sum restaurant into a full-blown rave, complete with rave juice, light painting, and the sort of miscellaneous shennanigans that you just have to experience for yourself. Check out Jubilee’s podcast below for a wide range of electro styles infused with her own breed of tropical flavor. Don’t miss Flashing Lights when it returns tomorrow night (July 2) – CLICK HERE to RSVP.

In addition to our old favorites, we can’t have a party without bringing in some new flavor. If you’ve read Asian Dan’s eponymous blog, you know he has a fantastic taste in music, which we’ll get to see live and in action on the decks tonight. As for Spectacal, who remains rather mysterious, expect fresh, foreign and dark tunes. Check out some sample tunage below.
