Tuesday & Wednesday, October 4th & 5th, Portishead, Hammerstein Ballroom
Portishead is a band from Bristol, UK, named after a small coastal town twelve miles west of said musical hotbed, in North Somerset. They were initially known for their use of jazz samples and some hip-hop beats along with various synth sounds and the hauntingly beautiful vocals of singer Beth Gibbons. Their current sound drops the samples in favour of a harder, more abrasive edge, but retains Gibbons’ vocals. Their tunes are legendary and hauntingly mesmerizing. Tickets
Tuesday-Sunday, October 4th-9th, Deadmau5, Roseland Ballroom
Born and raised in Niagara Falls, Canada, Joel Zimmerman (aka “deadmau5”) has become one of the most sought-after artists on the electronic music scene in recent times. He is known for his highly entertaining live gigs, often performing wearing a large cartoon mouse head. ‘Deadmau5’, Zimmermans’ DJ name, originates from an incident where a mouse crawled into his computer and died. He then posted on an internet forum of his shenanigans, and the members began calling him TheDeadMouseGuy. ‘Dead Mouse’ was too long for an IRC login name, so he abbreviated it to “deadmau5”. Tickets
Wednesday & Thursday, October 5th & 6th, James Blake, Webster Hall & Music Hall of Williamsburg
James Blake is a producer, DJ, and live musician based out of the United Kingdom. James Blake first garnered attention through his deep and melodic dubstep productions that began to emerge in 2009. The release of his EP The Bells Sketch in March of 2010, and of CMYK a few months later, represented a maturation of his sound; a movement away from his more dubstep centered production and towards the more stripped down melody that would characterize his first full length album. Released in February of this year, the album falls safely within the realm of the electronic genre, while heavily emphasizing piano and the increased integration of vocal elements, both of which are performed by James himself. This ability has set James apart and caused him to skyrocket to such notoriety at such a young age. Unfortunately both shows are sold out, we suggest trying your luck on Craigslist!
Friday, October 7th, Mickey Avalon, Webster Hall
Mickey Avalon (real name Yeshe Perl) is a rap artist from Hollywood, California. His debut self-titled solo album was released Nov. 7, 2006 on Interscope/Shoot to Kill Records in association with MySpace Records. Avalon blends dark, lewd, and crizzled lyrical hooks with hip-hop beats. Frequent topics of Avalon’s songs are his experiences with substance abuse and prostitution, but don’t let that discourage you- he knows how to deliver an epic performance. $5 til midnight with RSVP, Advance Tickets $15
Saturday, October 8th, Ladytron, Terminal 5
What transpired in the studio as a result of that confidence and freedom enhanced the vision they achieved on Witching Hour, and in doing so, has simultaneously redefined and escaped the genre. Produced by Ladytron with assistance from Vicarious Bliss (Ed Banger Records) and Alessandro Cortini (Nine Inch Nails), VELOCIFERO fully transcends the confines of electro-pop with a fresh wave of distorted soul. Mira and Helen—whose disparate vocal styles already provide considerable depth—have evolved both as musicians and songwriters, lending provocative harmonies to songs like “Runaway” and “I’m Not Scared.” While, rhythmically, there are moments reminiscent of their old favorites Os Mutantes and the Birthday Party. Denmark’s Mikkel Hess – recording and performing under the name Hess Is More – has decided to release a a series of New York inspired covers. The first to hit the internet’s airwaves has been his interpretation of the classic track The Only Living Boy in New York by Simon and Garfunkel. On the series, Hess commented:
After recently sending the upcoming Hess Is More album off to mastering I needed to work on some other music to stay sane and try keep clear of the classic post creation vacuum. So, I tried my hand on some cover songs free from memory. Simon & Garfunkel / Paul Simon are probably on the Top 3 list of music I have listened the most to in my life. Their original song is just perfect as it is, so I went quite far away from it to get some space and keep it light.
Check out the first song in the series below:

The two NYC party power houses, Let’s Play House and Global frequencies have teamed up for an event for the record books, this time at a secret venue with an over-the-top and tremendous lineup. They’re excited to be bringing Tiger & Woods to the U.S. for the first time ever, performing live! Spinning alongside them will be Pillowtalk, Runaway, Slow Hands and SOHO808.
Their bodies might be stationed in northern and southern Europe, but the collective consciousness of Tiger & Woods is more often found levitating in deep analog space. There’s been quite some hum around this mysterious duo’s output on the Editainment label, and their trademark fusion of boogie, house and compressed funk – while the live Tiger & Woods experience has already touched down at some of Europe’s most discerning disco outposts. Both members have also visited the Red Bull Music Academy planet, and made some intergalactic connections there.
You must RSVP in order to learn the location, which will be released just before the event.
Advance tickets may be purchased HERE
We also have a pair of tickets to give away to one lucky winner, just fill out the form below to enter!
CONTEST IS NOW CLOSED

Last Friday, Trouble & Bass celebrated their 5 year anniversary at Webster Hall with an insane party in the true style we’ve come to expect from the gang. Drop the Lime performed with his entire live band, putting on an extraordinary show to accompany his “raveabilly” sound. Plastician proceeded to drop some heavy bass, shaking the very foundations of Webster Hall with his gritty dubstep. And let’s not forget the rest of the Trouble & Bass crew, namely AC Slater, Star Eyes and The Captain, who each stepped behind the decks to drop some celebratory beats.
We’re looking forward to yet another year of Trouble & Bass glory, and can’t wait to see what they’ve got up their sleeves next. In the meantime…

Murmurs starting surfacing of Karen O’s psycho opera, Stop The Virgens, a few months back. However, details were kept to a minimum leaving curious imaginations to run wild. Karen O, best known as the front woman of the Yeah Yeah Yeahs, and her for audacious fashion statements, has never been shy when it comes to expressing her true self. Musically, she has received Grammy and MTV VMA nominations for her work with the Yeah Yeah Yeahs, scored tracks for feature films Where the Wild Things Are and Jackass, and played alongside Bjork, The White Stripes, and The Strokes. But does she have what it takes to make a successful opera? This traditional classical music genre is rarely depicted in the main stream. Yet, the standard definition of an opera is ‘an art form in which singers and musicians perform a dramatic work combining text and a musical score’.
Of course she has what it takes to make this perform piece phenomenal. Karen’s partner in crime, Christian Joy, is responsible for creating the costumes for the show. Her designs are imaginative, inspiring, and make you wish you could take a walk through his brain just to get a glimpse of how she views the world.
Karen stated: I have a pretty good idea of what the psycho opera is about but I wouldn’t dare try and put it into my clumsy words. I’m hoping to create an original live experience, it should feel like a psychedelic ride laced with catharsis. There is emotional cost to our narrative so we’re aiming to engage the audience, this piece isn’t aiming to be all about spectacle or abstraction though there is good helping of both in the production. It’s aiming to have all the good stuff of escapist entertainment with a few sucker punches to the gut along the way. I’m in the camp that needs to discover and take risks, sometimes it’s with the promise of something special and new, sometimes it’s to stay awake, either way it’s much more stressful with all the uncertainty but worth the pain in the end.
Stop The Virgens has been described as “an assault on the tragic joys of youth, fever dreams drenched in visual seduction, a cathartic spell spun through a cycle of nine songs”. The psycho opera is being produced by The Creators Project and will be taking place October 12-22 at Saint Ann’s Warehouse in DUMBO. Tickets start at $45. Click here to purchase tickets.
