The Creators Project Event Series to Launch at NYC’s Milk Studios

On June 26th, Vice Magazine and Intel will kick off their Creators Project event series – a roving international celebration of creativity – at Milk Studios in New York City. The five-city tour will continue to London, Sao Paulo, Seoul and end with a three-day extravaganza in Beijing.

The Creators Project celebrates creativity across all media in hopes of connecting global youth through a common passion for creativity and technology. The program identifies leading artists and gives them the tools and platform they need to showcase their wide range of talents. Artists are carefully selected from a wide range of media, including music, film, fashion, visual art and architecture. The interactive website launched last month, and includes a listing of artists (or “creators”) with samples of their work. This page is definitely worth a look – each profile has a wealth of information about the artist through interviews, videos, photo galleries and more.

The New York City kick-off event will utilize Milk Studios’ massive eight-floor art gallery and performance space to host interactive art exhibits, film screenings, workshops, discussion panels, and of course, musical performances. Mark Ronson, Sleigh Bells, The Rapture and Gang Gang Dance are among those slated to perform live; the event will also feature DJ sets by N.A.S.A., XXXChange, Lemonade and more.

Admission is free, but you need to register in order to qualify for passes to this all-day event. CLICK HERE to sign up – this is one event you won’t want to miss.

When Fashion and Music Collide: Theophilus London

Between his Gucci-themed record with Chauffeur and his recent six-page photo spread for Complex Magazine, Theophilus London continues to walk the line between fashion and music.

The photo spread, which was shot in November and is being released in time for Fashion Week, adds a splash of color to the artist’s signature style. “Everyone wanted me to feel comfortable and let me do my own thing,” London says in the accompanying interview, “They kept reminding me—this is about you; be yourself; be you, let you come out in the photos, and I just did that.”

London also proves that style isn’t just about the clothes: “It’s just great to project my aesthetic in pictures, not just present myself in a photo. I wanted to present a statement without talking.”

That he does. Click here to read the full interview and after the jump, check out Complex Magazine’s exclusive video of the shoot, which is scored with TL’s own “Cold Pillow” and “Fatality” from This Charming Mixtape.

Paint the Town Neon: Diesel’s Flash For Fun Hits NYC

Last week, New Yorkers flocked to the Diesel store in Union Square to pick up a coveted wristband from the mysterious “Baron” for the Diesel “Flash for Fun” party. The wristbands, which promised a secret location, special guest DJ and open bar, were selling on Craigslist for upwards of $100 apiece on the day of the event.

“Flash for Fun” is also the name of Diesel’s line of glow-in-the-dark apparel, which includes jeans, t-shirts, sneakers and underwear. The line was conceived for “those who play hard day & night, 24 hours non-stop, without taking time to change in between”.

Given the theme, Club Love – the aforementioned “secret location” – was the perfect backdrop for the party. Neon decorations and party favors, including balloons, glow sticks, glow necklaces, and light-up sunglasses, adorned the club and partygoers alike, while a make-up artist was on hand to decorate guests’ faces, complete with neon false eyelashes.

Spank Rock, the special guest DJ, did a great job with his selection of electro remixes. We have to admit, we were a little disappointed that he was selected as the “special guest”, only because he’s a local act that often makes appearances in New York City, and past Diesel events have featured performances by M.I.A., N.E.R.D., Passion Pit, Hot Chip, Lykke Li and The Roots. No matter, Spank Rock kept the dance floor alive during his entire set.

Diesel has always been known for their innovative approach to fashion and their fun and creative parties, two things that they’ve once again proven go hand in hand.

Converse Brings NYC Music Community Together for Basketball Smackdown

foolsgold-posse

After all of the trash talk on Twitter (especially between the Mad Decent and Fool’s Gold families), we just had to check out the Converse Band of Ballers 3-on-3 basketball tournament last Wednesday. We were too late to catch the Fool’s Gold vs. Mad Decent smackdown (Fool’s Gold won), but we did get there just in time to see the Jim Jones Family dominate Mad Decent in what co-host Peter Rosenberg called “the easiest win so far”.

In the semi-finals, the Jim Jones Family took another victory against the Brooklyn Crew, which included Theophilus London and Matt & Kim. Next up, Fool’s Gold took on Pac Div in the closest game of the day. MVP definitely goes to Dan Solomito, who scored most (if not all) of the baskets for Fool’s Gold. Despite A-Trak’s supreme coaching skills and amusing victory dances, Fool’s Gold lost 11-10 in sudden-death overtime. To no one’s surprise, the Jim Jones Family prevailed once again over Pac Div, earning them the tournament trophy.

Big ups to Converse for planning a great event and bringing the NYC music community together in a fun, relaxed and unique way. The players’ uniforms were styling and of course, the sneakers matched.
