This Thursday, October 21, 2010, the second edition of Greater > Than hits Cielo, bringing quality house music to the thumping Funktion One sound system and sunken dancefloor. October’s party features the NYC debut of Barcelona’s Coyu, a set from the UK’s Cesar Merveille, as well as the musical stylings of resident Michael Vieira.
For the creators of the event, Greater>Than represents a focus on the new school – a commitment to bringing the most innovative and influential underground talent from across the globe into our backyard. It is a platform for the best house DJs and producers to showcase their work in the greatest city in the world, and provides a space where deep and tech house can fuse seamlessly with hints of tribal drums and afro sounds to create an atmosphere like no other. Greater > Than is an event that encourages genre crossing and experimentation to draw out the best from the music they love.
Coyu, otherwise known as, Iván Ramos, is one of the most talented artists of the current European music scene. As a DJ, Coyu is daring, eclectic and innovative – always staring at the future, living in the present and learning from the past. As the label head of Suara and Atypical Farm, and with a well-know career as musical journalist, promoter and booking agent, Coyu is a multifaceted artist who has been involved in the electronic music scene for many years. He achieved international acclaim as producer with the release of “El Baile Alemán” along his partner Edu Imbernon in Spring 2009. In 2010, he has received two Deejaymag awards, played his first gigs in North America, and is set to release some material on big labels like Get Physical, Rebirth, Noir Music, Bangbang! and Tronic.

Cesar Merveille has quickly made a name for himself with releases on Circus Company, Serialism, Safari Electronique and others, with his “Chocopop Jazz” – released under the name Cesar Maravillas – making a huge splash in 2008. Making his debut appearance on Cadenza in 2009, Cesar touched down like a cyclone with his EP Descarga (already known to clubbers as a highlight of Luciano’s recent sets), which was made in collaboration with Pablo Cahn Speyer. With residencies at T-Bar and Lo*Kee, where his colorful and upbeat sets provide a soundtrack perfectly calibrated for the feel-good hedonism of some of London’s most celebrated parties, Cesar has also gotten the chance to play in some of the hottest clubs in the UK (Fabric, the Key, Canvas), but also in Ibiza (Space), Detroit (Works) and in all of Europe (Watergate, Week End, Bar 25, Club Der Visionaere).
The party is free before 12 midnight if you RSVP below, or $20 after 12 at the door. Advanced tickets can also be purchased for $15 through Resident Advisor HERE. Each entry below will be entered to win a pair of tickets.

2010 has certainly been a breakout year for Chiddy Bang, who have made a name for themselves with EPs and mixtapes. The alternative hip hip duo from Philadelphia have come a long way from the underground scenes as blog darlings to playing at this year’s Glastonbury and Lollapalooza music festivals. In 2011, the duo will take their work to the next level, releasing their debut album, The Swelly Life.
Lucky for you, if you’re into their synth-pop beats and snappy lyrics you don’t have to wait that long to get a taste for their upcoming album. The latest EP from Chiddy Bang, titled Chiddy Bang: The Preview highlights eight songs that includes the sampling of MGMT’s “Kids” and Passion Pit’s “Better Things” and “Opposite of Adults”. And with heavyweights Q-Tip and Pharrell Williams on board (Williams produced the track, “The Good Life”), Chiddy bang is making some noise with some savvy songs and clever lyrics. All in all, the EP is full of great lyrics and tunes that can only allude to a great album to come. Check out the preview of the album on their Myspace page.
For a bonus, click through for a video of Chiddy Bang and Xaphoon Jones’ rendition of Bobby McFerrin’s 1988 classic, “Don’t Worry Be Happy”, shot in the Billboard studio as part of their “Monday Mashup” series.
On Thursday, October 28, Drop the Lime’s national “Hot As Hell” tour will make a stop at Brooklyn’s Public Assembly. Joined by the Trouble & Bass Crew – The Captain, Star Eyes and AC Slater – Drop the Lime will celebrate the release of his newest single, “Hot As Hell”, which will be released in November.
And in the grand tradition of Halloween weekend, the event will have a 1950′s Rockabilly theme with a bonus for getting in the holiday spirit – the first 50 people to come dressed in era-appropriate garb will receive a free Bad Lupo Grande 7″.
The event is free before midnight with RSVP ($7 after midnight). All RSVPs will be entered to win a Trouble & Bass goodie bag that includes a tote bag, stickers, a lighter, a Bad Lupo Grande 7″, and a T&B Dracula Tank Top.
This party is most definitely going to be hot as hell (had to), so don’t miss it. In preparation, check out Drop the Lime’s Rock-A-Billy Ruckus mix below, and don’t forget to RSVP HERE.
The SWAMP81 label invades Brooklyn this Monday, October 11th, with Kode9, Falty DL, Dave Q and Loefah.
Those familiar with the SWAMP81 label know that it is associated with nothing short of pure talent. Named after Operation Swamp 81, the stop & search laws enacted by South London police in 1981 and which led to the infamous Brixton riots. Loefah, the man behind the imprint, instigates riots of a different nature, those of the dubstep and bass variety. Skream, The Bug, Addison Groove and Instra:mental are just a few of the heavy hitters who have graced the label.
NYC is in for a special treat as this Monday night SWAMP81 is taking over a secret location in Brooklyn. The event is $10 with RSVP.

This Sunday, October 3, Verboten and LessThan3 are bringing their popular “Unnatural Disasters” party to the beautiful Rivington Hotel Penthouse and roof deck. This edition will celebrate the birth of Johnny Flawless, featuring all day merriment with Wolf + Lamb label mates Soul Clap and Nicolas Jaar.
By harnessing the past Soul Clap looks to the future, with forward thinking productions, remixes and edits, creative DJ sets and some of the USA’s best dance music events. Soul Clap’s training goes beyond history lessons to mastering all the elements of the DJ and producer: knowledge, mixing, programming, performance and experience. They honed their knowledge by teaching a university course about dance music at Tufts University. Soul Clap themselves learned that “house wears many hats” and were instilled with the sounds of New York, Chicago, Detroit and Philadelphia while fostering an addiction to crate-digging, that has become a worldwide quest to acquire the best music. Soul Clap released their first 12″ on Airdrop Records and then spread their wings with a grip of edits, remixes and originals on Brooklyn’s Wolf + Lamb.
Nicolas Jaar was born in NY but quickly relocated to Santiago de Chile in the 90s only to come back to his birth place as a teenager. Haunted by Mulatu Astatke and Erik Satie, Nico started to make organic electronic music in 2004 at the age of 14. At 17, he made his debut with “The Student EP” on Wolf and Lamb Music with a remix by Seth Troxler who called him, “one of the most talented minds dance music is about to see develop”. At 18, he continued producing and played live at Club Der Visionaire and Arena in Berlin, at the Marcy in Brooklyn, at Communikey in Colorado and at Mutek in Mexico City. Now 19, studying at Brown University in Rhode Island, Nico has releases coming up on Circus Company, Wolf + Lamb and on his own label, Clown and Sunset of which he is the owner and founder.
The party starts at 2pm and goes until midnight. Advanced tickets can be purchased HERE.
