Pitchfork Music Festival Goes Parisian

This October, the infamous Pitchfork site, known for it’s unapologetic critiques of all things new and cutting edge in music, is bringing it’s curated sounds to the City of Lights on October 28 and 29. The festival will take over Le Grande Halle de la Villette, a stunning 19th century glass and metal structure that stands in the center of the Parc de la Villette, the city’s largest public cultural park. It includes one day co-curated by Bon Iver and a club night that will run until 5am. The festival also features Aphex Twin, Bon Iver, Jens Lekman, Wild Beasts, Cut Copy, Kathleen Edwards, Pantha du Prince, Washed Out, Iceage, Erol Alkan, Stornoway, and Mondkopf, with more acts to be announced soon.

Tickets can be purchased HERE, and be sure to keep an eye on Pitchfork for more updates as October draws closer.

Sonar Day 2 Photo Highlights with Aphex Twin, M.I.A., Boys Noize, A-Trak, Star Eyes and More

Girls ruled the first half of day two, with strong sets from Star Eyes and Katy B. Star Eyes did the Trouble & Bass fam proud, getting the crowd riled up and giving us a much-needed energy infusion to start our day. Backed by a full band, Katy B had us hooked with her unique voice and delightful stage presence. Other daytime performers included Matador Rockers, Zinc, Atmosphere and Four Tet.

Daytime is fun and all, but Sonar by Night is definitely where it’s at. Friday night featured sets from Cut Copy, M.I.A., Dizzee Rascal, the legendary Aphex Twin, Redlight featuring Dread MC, A-Trak and Boys Noize.

Click through for some photo highlights, and check in with us next week for full recaps and photo galleries.

Camp Bisco 10: Electro Heaven

Greetings New Yorkers. It’s only the beginning, May 25th to be exact, and the heat is starting to kick in. Our concrete jungle is slowly morphing into a roasting sauna. However, there are plenty of upsides to this temperature change: the sun is shining, flip-flops are becoming the ideal shoe of choice, the streets are flooded with people, and music is in the air, literally. Everywhere you walk, day and night, night and day, palpable, melodic vibrations are pouring out venue doors, small cafes, and street corners. This concept is refreshing, the winter is far behind us and now it is time to relax and absorb our surroundings.

Come mid-summer, the sudden urge of “I must get out of here” might cross your mind. It happens to the best of us. The relentless sweltering sun becomes too much bear. Your mind longs for rolling green hills and fresh country air. What about the music? If you are an electronic music connoisseur, look no further. We are proud to suggest the perfect solution, Camp Bisco 10.

Camp Bisco is a three-day music and arts festival that is put on by none other than the Disco Biscuits themselves. Over one hundred A-List electronic artists from around the world are bringing the talent. This year, the festival will be held on the sublime Lookout Country Club grounds in Mariaville, New York. Mariaville is a short 3-hour trip from New York City and only a twenty-minute drive from Albany. The grounds are composed of 200 acres of green grass fields. Heaven, and it is so close to the city!

This year, Camp Bisco is celebrating its tenth anniversary! The masterminds behind this event are coming up with new ways to innovate the festival and make it more memorable than the last. The Camp is expanding to accommodate five performance stages, a second main gate for faster entrance purposes, an improved late night dance tent, a larger silent disco, and daily music workshops and seminars. New this year will be the addition of curated label showcase tents. Labels such as DFA Records, Mad Decent, and Damon Dash will be hosting their freshest artists and tracks throughout the entire festival. This is a brilliant way to go catch a favorite act while discovering something new. A few things to look forward to are a SPECIAL DISCO VERSION DJ set featuring James Murphy and Pat Mahony from the DFA tent, a Holy Ghost! DJ set from DFA, and Moobahton style tunes from Mad Decent.

Headliners for this year’s festival will include the Disco Biscuits, Cut Copy, Wiz Khalifa, Bassnectar, Pretty Lights, Shpongle Live (first ever US Live appearance!), Ratatat, Death from Above 1979, MSTRKRFT, Ghostland Observatory, Rusko, Wolfgang Gartner, and Skrillex. We also suggest checking out Easy Star All-Stars and Harvard Bass.

Electro Heaven does not seem to do this event justice. We are ecstatic to have the opportunity to cover this event and cannot wait to see you there. If you have any suggestions for artists we should look in to, let us know! Your feed-back is loved and appreciated. Tickets are incredibly well priced so buy your tickets now! We will see you in Mariaville!

Sonar Barcelona Announces 2011 Line-Up

As winter in New York City slowly melts away around us, festival season looms larger and larger on the horizon, with events increasing in frequency all around the world along with the rising temperatures. One such event that is particularly noteworthy is Sonar Festival of Advanced Music and Technology, which takes place in the heart of Barcelona, Spain. Sonar was without a doubt one of the highlights of last summer’s musical adventures, and we cannot wait to see what the extraordinary festival has to offer this June 16, 17, and 18, 2011.

There could not be a more perfect setting than Barcelona for such a festival celebrating new, primarily electronic based, music and accompanying technology. The city itself is warm, friendly, and free, containing the perfect combination of historical nostalgia and modern evolution. Sonar by Day takes place in the heart of downtown, with performances primarily centered around the MACBA and the CCCB. Surrounding the festival location are narrow winding streets, welcoming tapas bars and cafes, and lively watering holes brimming with Catalan spirit. As the sun sets and the energy builds, partygoers flock to Sonar by Night, which is located in an enormous warehouse space located on the outskirts of the city near L’Hospitalet. The nighttime festivities carry on far into the morning, with big name DJs, producers, and live bands keeping everyone dancing across three massive stages.

Festival passes for all 3 days can be purchased HERE, along with passes to individual days and nights. Visit Sonar’s WEBSITE for more information and for continued updates as the June draws closer.

See our coverage of DAY 1, DAY 2, and DAY 3 of last year’s Sonar and get a feel for what the event has to offer, and click HERE to go straight to the photo galleries of all Sonar by Day, Sonar by Night, and Off-Sonar events from 2010.

Silence is Golden

the-golden-filter

Electro-pop duo The Golden Filter will perform a rare NYC show at the Tribeca Grand this Saturday. Little is known about lead singer Penelope and synth programmer Stephen – they prefer to keep personal information under wraps: “Mystique is interesting to us. We adore secrets… we just let people listen to the music, close their eyes, use their imaginations, and not worry about who or what made it”.

Curious? So are we. Listen to their remix of Cut Copy’s “Far Away” below and click here to RSVP to their free show on Saturday.
