Contest: Win Tickets to MeanRed’s New Years Eve Bash!

Are you still scratching your head and trying to figure out where you will be counting down the final seconds of 2011? Well, if you’re looking an eve of epic festivities, look no further than to our friends at MeanRed.

MeanRed is gathering your favorite Brooklyn DJs to shake your inebriated bodies into the New Year. AND- you will be in Brooklyn, which means far far away from the horrific chaos of Times Square. Nick Cathdubs, Jubilee, Kaviar Disco Club, and Blue Jemz will be bringing the beats until the wee hours of morning. There will be a champagne toast and an open bar between 9-10 PM! The event is being held at Lorelely, Brooklyn’s best beer garden-turned-club! This event is only $20! So cheap for such great music and an open bar? How could you possibly resist?

Tickets for MeanRed’s New Years Eve event can be purchased online until 6pm the day of the show.

We’re also offering one lucky HiFi reader a pair of tickets to the event. Enter after the jump, the contest will close on Wednesday, December 28th at noon. Good luck!

Video: Behind the Scenes w/ Trouble & Bass on Deathface’s “Bloodrave” Music Video Shoot

Last month, we tagged along with the Trouble & Bass crew on the music video shoot for “Bloodrave”, the lead single off Deathface’s new EP, Fall of Man, released today. On set, we caught up with Johnny Love (aka Deathface) and director Patrick Rood (aka The Captain), who gave us the scoop on the EP and on the music video concept, which is based on the opening scene of the movie Blade. The music video features appearances from members of the Trouble & Bass extended family… check out our behind the scenes video after the jump and see for yourself, and CLICK HERE to check out photos from the video shoot.

Fall of Man is available today on iTunes, Beatport, and a variety of other online outlets. CLICK HERE for a full list of outlets and to stream the EP via Soundcloud.

Flashing Lights is Back Again with Douster

This Friday February 25, Flashing Lights returns to Public Assembly with another edition of their infamous party! This time around, Douster joins the usual crew DJ Ayres, Nick Catchdubs, and Jubilee, for a night that’s sure to be filled with awesome beats and good times, not to mention more than enough rave juice.

Youthful French producer and ZZK Records compatriot Douster has been making a splash with his clubby European take on the various tropical rhythms (and riddims) emerging from around the globe. Whether it be dancehall or kuduro, cumbia or UK funky, Douster can be counted on to deliver an uptempo, chopped-and-sliced dancefloor filler.

Check out this brand new tour mix that he just did for The Fader to get you pumped!

Photo Gallery: Worldwide Smash Anniversary Party at Tammany Hall (January 18, 2011)

While the horrifically disgusting weather that took over our fair city deterred many an otherwise adventurous soul from venturing outside of their apartments, I personally don’t see any better way to beat the winter blues than some good tunes and cheerful company. So, we braved the puddles of semi-frozen black slush and made our way to Tammany Hall, formerly The Annex, where East Village Radio was throwing an anniversary party in honor of their show Worldwide Smash.

DJ Still Life who hosts Worldwide Smash started the night out, followed by Jojo Mayer + Nerve who performed using live instruments, with the central focus being centered on the drums. Their performance was fascinating, as they essentially deconstructed electronic music and then proceeded to piece the beats back together using live instruments. Rather than music that has traditionally been created using instruments being constructed using computers, which is common these days, this presented the opposite – computer music on instruments. After this Shigeto took the stage, playing a subdued set of his sophisticated and temperamental sound, combining classic elements of UK funky and house with more jazzy and ambient tendancies. Matt Shadetek was up next, followed by a second performance from Jojo Mayer + Nerve, whose second set was so powerful it spurned one guy into dancing his clothes off to the tune of resounding cheers from the crowd. Jubilee closed out the night with a typically awesome variety of bass music, with an attendee even referring to her as “this bad-ass pint size bottle rocket”. Not bad for a typical Tuesday in January. Next week? Keep the street slush away and the good tunes coming.

Photo Gallery: Flashing Lights at Public Assembly (December 10, 2010)

Flashing Lights returned to Public Assembly on Friday night, with stellar sets by special guests Starks & Nacey (of DC’s Nouveau Riche) and residents Nick Catchdubs, DJ Ayres and Jubilee. Natalie Storm performed some solo material, and was even joined by Jubilee and Maggie Horn for a sexy dance break. Throughout the night curious characters from the muppet-themed party stopped by for a peek (hence the costumes).

Gaslamp Killer, Nero And The Whole Flashing Lights Crew Take Over Girls & Boys At Webster Hall

This Friday, July 30th, Webster Hall will be sculpted into bass heaven with Nero and Gaslamp Killer, while our favorite NYC trio, Ayres, Catchdubs and Jubilee, bring their flashing lights rave goodness to the stage. This is one not to be missed, period.

Last time we caught the mother fucking Gaslamp Killer, he delivered an epic sermon of cosmic bass that melted our brains in Brooklyn. Vaulting hip-hop into another dimension, GLK’s eccentrically dizzy dj sets wrap riddims around your soul while his hair keeps up the tempo. Have a listen to this mixtape from last year which Flying Lotus tells us is his first glimpse into the mind of GLK.

The Gaslamp Killer – Brainfeeder Podcast [Download]

Nero brings their internally bruising drum & bass and dubstep riddims straight across the pond to damage your ear drums. Remixing eveyrone from The Streets to Beyonce, these boys are poised to bring out the bassface in everyone. Check out one of the their hugest anthems from this year…

Nero – Innocence

The Flashing Lights crew needs no introduction. Let their latest mix do all the talking…

Thank you to everyone who came out and was involved with the party… we can’t wait to see what next year holds.
