Last Thursday night, Pusha-T delivered a high-energy headlining performance at Gramercy Theater in NYC. He performed songs from his latest EP, Fear of God II, as well as music by Clipse and his collaborations with Kanye West from My Beautiful Dark Twisted Fantasy. He also announced Clipse’s upcoming release, slated for 2013.
Check out more pictures from his performance after the jump.
This Thursday, Pusha-T will headline New York City’s Gramercy Theater in support of his new EP, Fear of God II.
While Pusha-T may be best known as one-half of acclaimed duo Clipse, and for his contributions to Kanye West’s hit song, “Runaway”, make no mistake, 2011 has been a huge year for the artist. He stepped out with his debut solo mixtape, Fear of God in March, and followed it up with a star-studded sequel, Fear of God II, released last month. The EP features the likes of Diddy, Kanye West, Pharrell, 50 Cent and Tyler the Creator.
Gramercy Theater is, in my opinion, one of the best venues in the city – don’t miss your chance to see Pusha-T in such an intimate setting. Openers include NinjaSonik, Mr. Muthafuckin’ eXquire, Gilbere Forte, Emilio Rojas and Jasmine Solano. Get your tickets HERE.
On Saturday night, Kanye West performed to a crowd of 80,000 people at the OLM Souissi stage at Festival Mawazine in Rabat, Morocco. His 24-song set lasted just over an hour a half and was balanced between old and new favorites. He aptly started with “Dark Fantasy” and ended with “Lost In the World”, the opening and closing tracks from his latest album, My Beautiful Dark Twisted Fantasy. He was joined onstage by 22 dancers, a two-piece band and a DJ.
I’d seen Kanye West perform on four previous occasions, all in New York – the Glow in the Dark Tour in 2008 (pure brilliance), the Shock the World Event by G-Shock in 2009, with Jay-Z at Yankee Stadium last September, and at the Fool’s Gold CMJ party in October – but watching him perform in Morocco was a totally different experience. Why? Click through to find out.
Kanye West has stepped up to replace Nelly Furtado at Mawazine 2011, taking place in Rabat next month. The largest music festival in Morocco is celebrating its ten-year anniversary with an all star international line-up that includes Shakira, Joe Cocker, Cat Stevens, Quincy Jones, Lionel Richie and many more. The line-up of over 100 artists also includes notable local acts like Nass el Ghiwane and Hoba Hoba Spirit.
The festival will take place in venues across Rabat from May 20-28, and most of the shows (including all of the ones mentioned above) are free of charge. CLICK HERE for more info on the line-up and about the VIP ticket option, which gives you access to a special viewing area at the front of the stage.
In today’s awesome collaboration news, Robyn will debut a brand-new version of “Dancing On My Own” when she performs with Deadmau5 at this year’s MTV Video Music Awards. Deadmau5, the evening’s in-house DJ, is also set to collaborate with Travie McCoy and Jason Derülo to rework some of their current hits. Other scheduled performers include Eminem, Usher, Kanye West, Justin Bieber, Drake, B.o.B, and Florence + The Machine. The MTV Video Music Awards will be broadcast live from Los Angeles on September 12 at 9 PM Eastern Time.
After a long wait – two years to be exact – Kid Sister (aka Melissa Young) has finally released her debut album. Originally titled Dream Date and set for a July 2008 release, Ultraviolet came out this week with beats and synths from Fool’s Gold Records founders A-Trak and Nick Catchdubs. With the help of XXXChange, Steve Angello, Sebastian Ingrosso, Rusko, Herve & Sniden, Yuksek and Spank Rock, Kid Sister creates flows with lexical quirks that makes Ultraviolet an enjoyable listen. The Chicago native joined the coveted club of female rappers in 2007 with her breakthrough billboard chart single “Pro Nails”, featuring Kanye West. Kid Sister got her start while touring with Flosstradamus (her younger brother, Josh Young makes up half of the duo), when she caught the attention of A-Trak, and the rest is nothing short of bumping erotic beats and warranted dancing.
The release of Ultraviolet makes it clear that Kid Sister has grown into a persona, taking the time to harness the interests that she garnered from her collaboration with Kanye West. Many artists take their brink and rush for the glory, but by allowing herself the time to mature, Kid Sister yielded a magnetic and fun album of polished dance tunes and charismatic lyrics.
Tonight (Wednesday, November 18), Fool’s Gold Records will celebrate the album’s release at Griffin with DJ sets by A-Trak, Nick Catchdubs, DRek Martinez and others (click here to RSVP). You can also catch her live with Flosstradamus at Webster Hall on November 27th.
Mixtape impresarios Mick Boogie and Terry Urban are back with their latest project, this time crossing The Noisettes with Kanye West to create Wild Young Heartbreaks. Kanye’s notorious auto-tune album couldn’t be more different from The Noisettes’ lead singer Shingai’s definitively classic vocals, but they somehow make for a harmonious combination.
Many of the artists and producers who worked on Re-Living Thing, including 6th Sense, nVMe, Apple Juice Kid and Christian Rich, were happy to contribute to the new project. Double-0 from Kidz in the Hall also put his touch on the mixtape with the track “Cheap Cops” (The Noisettes’ “Cheap Kicks” with Kanye West’s “Robocop”).

Mick Boogie, Terry Urban and The Noisettes – Cheap Cops (remixed by Double-0)
Hot on the heels of Re-Living Thing, Mick Boogie is at it again, collaborating once again with Terry Urban to create The Noisettes vs. Kanye West. The project fuses vocals from The Noisettes’ latest release, Wild Young Hearts, with samples from Kanye West’s 808s and Heartbreak, playing on the common theme of “heart” in the titles. The Noisettes’ old-fashioned vocals paired with Kanye West’s ultra-modern vocoder makes for an interesting combination. “Upset Lockdown”, which hit the internet last week, definitely piqued our interest; the song features live drumming by Apple Juice Kid and is produced by 6th Sense.
Last Wednesday at Cipriani Wall Street, Casio unveiled their new line of G-Shock watches with the help of Kanye West and DJ Enuff as part of their 12-city “Shock the World” 2009 global tour.
