The Aftermath of the Governors Ball

As sun stretched into Saturday’s morning sky, I was bouncing around my room and impatiently trying to nudge my boyfriend out of his peaceful slumber. This day had been circled on my calendar for about a month now and after weeks of built up anticipation, it had finally arrived. It was time to go to the Ball, the Governors Ball. This was not the social gathering you would want to attend in a floor length gown or tuxedo. Instead, you’d want to trade the evening-wear for a tank top, make up for sunscreen, and champagne for water.  The Governors Ball was New York City’s newest addition to its summer festival line up, and I was ecstatic to be a part of it.

First and foremost, my main concern was arriving to the pier early enough to avoid the assumed monolithic ferry lines. It was only logical that the Governors Ball would take place on Governors Island and thought of tens of thousands of festival attendees being forced to rely on boats for the sole option of transportation sounded chaotic. However, much to my surprise, not only was this process organized, but well executed. The longest wait I heard of was twenty minutes, and the ride over was quite stunning. New York City looked tranquil, resting between New Jersey and Brooklyn.

Camp Bisco 10: Electro Heaven

Greetings New Yorkers. It’s only the beginning, May 25th to be exact, and the heat is starting to kick in. Our concrete jungle is slowly morphing into a roasting sauna. However, there are plenty of upsides to this temperature change: the sun is shining, flip-flops are becoming the ideal shoe of choice, the streets are flooded with people, and music is in the air, literally. Everywhere you walk, day and night, night and day, palpable, melodic vibrations are pouring out venue doors, small cafes, and street corners. This concept is refreshing, the winter is far behind us and now it is time to relax and absorb our surroundings.

Come mid-summer, the sudden urge of “I must get out of here” might cross your mind. It happens to the best of us. The relentless sweltering sun becomes too much bear. Your mind longs for rolling green hills and fresh country air. What about the music? If you are an electronic music connoisseur, look no further. We are proud to suggest the perfect solution, Camp Bisco 10.

Camp Bisco is a three-day music and arts festival that is put on by none other than the Disco Biscuits themselves. Over one hundred A-List electronic artists from around the world are bringing the talent. This year, the festival will be held on the sublime Lookout Country Club grounds in Mariaville, New York. Mariaville is a short 3-hour trip from New York City and only a twenty-minute drive from Albany. The grounds are composed of 200 acres of green grass fields. Heaven, and it is so close to the city!

This year, Camp Bisco is celebrating its tenth anniversary! The masterminds behind this event are coming up with new ways to innovate the festival and make it more memorable than the last. The Camp is expanding to accommodate five performance stages, a second main gate for faster entrance purposes, an improved late night dance tent, a larger silent disco, and daily music workshops and seminars. New this year will be the addition of curated label showcase tents. Labels such as DFA Records, Mad Decent, and Damon Dash will be hosting their freshest artists and tracks throughout the entire festival. This is a brilliant way to go catch a favorite act while discovering something new. A few things to look forward to are a SPECIAL DISCO VERSION DJ set featuring James Murphy and Pat Mahony from the DFA tent, a Holy Ghost! DJ set from DFA, and Moobahton style tunes from Mad Decent.

Headliners for this year’s festival will include the Disco Biscuits, Cut Copy, Wiz Khalifa, Bassnectar, Pretty Lights, Shpongle Live (first ever US Live appearance!), Ratatat, Death from Above 1979, MSTRKRFT, Ghostland Observatory, Rusko, Wolfgang Gartner, and Skrillex. We also suggest checking out Easy Star All-Stars and Harvard Bass.

Electro Heaven does not seem to do this event justice. We are ecstatic to have the opportunity to cover this event and cannot wait to see you there. If you have any suggestions for artists we should look in to, let us know! Your feed-back is loved and appreciated. Tickets are incredibly well priced so buy your tickets now! We will see you in Mariaville!

Coachella Announces 2010 Line-Up

After seeing Coachella‘s initial line-up, we might just have to add it to our jam-packed spring schedule. Jay-Z, Muse, and Gorillaz are set to headline the three-day festival, now in its 11th year.

The massive line-up of over 130 artists includes Major Lazer, Vampire Weekend, Flying Lotus, Bassnectar, Pretty Lights, Miike Snow, Matt & Kim, Rusko, Deadmau5, Passion Pit, Phoenix, La Roux, Faith No More, MGMT… we could go on forever.

Radiohead frontman Thom Yorke, who is listed on the flier as “Thom Yorke ????”,  is indeed confirmed for Sunday. The question marks next to his name refer to the backing band he had assembled to play in Los Angeles last fall: Flea from the Red Hot Chilli Peppers, longtime Radiohead producer Nigel Godrich,  and session hands Joey Waronker and Mauro Refosco.

This year, Coachella will offer expanded camping options to include cars and RVs, in addition to traditional tent camping. This is also the first year that the festival will allow in-and-out privileges for all attendees.

Coachella will take place at the Empire Polo Club in Indio, CA from Friday, April 16 – Sunday April 18. Tickets will be available starting Friday, January 22 at 10 AM. For those of us strapped for cash, they are offering a layaway payment plan. On the opposite end of the spectrum, Coachella is also teaming up with Valley Music Travel to provide exclusive deals and packages that include travel, local hotel shuttle transportation, and private home rentals with VIP access to the festival.

Check out the full line-up after the jump…

The initial line-up for the music festival, taking place once more at Bicentennial Park, already includes A-Trak, Major Lazer, Steve Aoki, the Bloody Beetroots, and Pretty Lights. The added presence of Rusko, Skream, Bassnectar and Crookers is just another indication of how prolific dubstep has become in the music scene. Tiesto, Carl Cox, Dirty South, Rabbit in the Moon, Infected Mushroom, Deadmau5 and Armin Van Buuren were on the bill last year and will make repeat appearance in 2010.

A ticket to Ultra is included with the purchase of the Winter Music Conference badge, which is $325 if you purchase by January 6. On it’s own, a two-day pass to the festival costs $139.50.
