Fixed Weekend Double Header: The Twelves and Simian Mobile Disco

Get ready, because Fixed has a huge weekend in store for us with two awesome back-to-back parties with The Twelves on Friday and Simian Mobile Disco on Saturday. We’re giving away a pair of tickets to each event, enter the contest after the jump.

On Friday, Brazilian duo The Twelves will hit up Good Units, along with Fixed’s JDH. One of the coolest things about The Twelves (other than their music) is their insane ability to remix on the fly. On a side-note, their remix for The Black Kids’ “I’m Not Gonna Teach Your Boyfriend How To Dance With You” was featured on the last season of Glee, and (as far as I know) is the only remix that has ever been featured on the show.

BBC Essential Mix: The Twelves

The party continues on Saturday night with Simian Mobile Disco, who will be DJing at Public Assembly with JDH and Dave P. The duo has recently released the music video for their latest single, Gizzard. CLICK HERE to check it out.

Based on past experience, with both The Twelves and Simian Mobile Disco (not to mention the always consistent Fixed residents JDH and Dave P) we forecast an awesome weekend for all. Advance tickets can be purchased HERE for The Twelves and HERE for Simian Mobile Disco. And of course, our friends at Fixed have hooked us up with a pair of tickets to each show to give away to our readers. Fill out the form below to enter the contest — each person can enter the contest twice, once for each event.

Music for Monday Morning: Simian Mobile Disco

Simian Mobile Disco have released a video for their newest single Gizzard out now on their own label Delicasies. The single is available both digitally and on 12″ vinyl. This three minute and forty second track tells a concise story similar to Sleep Deprivation while maintaining the Eurodance feel of all the tracks released on their second full album, Delicacies. The duo announced that every track released on their new label will “take the name of an exotic, and often bizarre, delicacy from around the world.” No word as of yet on their third full-length release, but SMD will be spinning two DJ sets here in New York City on August 6th. This Saturday afternoon you can find them at MoMA’s PS1 Warm Up event and Fixed is presenting them at Public Assembly in the evening. Click here to purchase tickets.

Photo Gallery: Fixed Presents Simian Mobile Disco (November 18, 2010)

On Thursday night, Santos Party House and Fixed hosted Simian Mobile Disco for the fourth gig of their quarterly residency New York City. Fixed residents JDH and Dave P had the party going strong before Simian Mobile Disco took over the decks. I loved peering into the DJ booth to see a stack of vinyl, something you don’t see that often these days, and was in total awe when the disco ball did its thing and spread glimmering, clinquant joy across the room.

Things really picked up around 1 AM when Simian Mobile Disco took over. Their sound really suited the venue, especially combined with the multitude of lights and colors that changed with the beat. All night we were treated to that distinctive dirty electro sound that SMD are so famous for, and we even encountered cheeky little remixes of old electro-house classics.

By 2:30 AM, people from the dance floor had migrated to the stage, bodies jumping and fists in the air. When SMD dropped “Audacity of Huge” from Temporary Pleasures, the room lit up and the crowd went wild, as people clambered up onto the rail surrounding the DJ booth and danced with their arms in the air, beaming from ear to ear. It was one of those magical moments where the music took over and all you could do was smile, dance and sing along.

Fixed Six Year Anniversary “Weekender” with Simian Mobile Disco, Villa and Tensnake

Our first encounter with Fixed was just over a year ago (Halloween 2009 with Boys Noize), and we have to say, it’s been quite a ride. One thing we’ve learned about Fixed is that they have amazing taste in music, bringing us a wide variety of forward-thinking electronic artists. Fixed residents JDH and Dave P have the uncanny ability to tailor their opening sets to the style of the featured guests, preparing the audience for what’s to come while showcasing their own multi-faceted talents.

This weekend, Fixed will officially ring in six years of radness by continuing their European invasion starting with Simian Mobile Disco tonight. The British duo will once again preside over Santos Party House for the final gig of their quarterly Fixed residency. Advance tickets available HERE.

Saturday caps off Fixed’s November hot streak with 6ixed – the official 6 year anniversary celebration at Le Poisson Rouge, where Tensnake will make his live NYC debut. This has been a great year for the German producer, who made a name for himself with the worldwide smash “Coma Cat”, along with countless remixes. Villa will also be making their NYC debut. The duo comes from the same Belgian music scene that brought us Soulwax and Aeroplane… seriously, need we say more? Advance tickets are available HERE. We’re also giving away two pairs of tickets to the event, enter after the jump.

Photo Gallery: Fixed Presents Lindstrøm at Le Poisson Rouge (November 13, 2010)

On Saturday night, Fixed continued their hot streak with a live set by Lindstrøm. Together with Fixed residents JDH and Dave P, the Norwegian DJ/producer provided an evening of feel-good tunes to a packed room at Le Poisson Rouge.

If you missed out on the action, well, that’s too bad since Saturday night was one of only three stops on Lindstrøm’s brief US tour… BUT on the bright side you have two chances to party with Fixed this week, first with Simian Mobile Disco on Thursday at Santos Party House (yes, they will be open) then on Saturday for 6ixed with Tensnake and Villa at Le Poisson Rouge, celebrating Fixed’s Six Year Anniversary. CLICK HERE for your chance to win a pair of tickets to each event.

Last night, Simian Mobile Disco’s Jas Shaw took over the decks at Santos Party House for one of the best Fixed parties of the year. The party drew a sizable crowd that included Armand van Helden, Telli Federline of Ninjasonik, Alex English, and more. As always, Fixed residents JDH and Dave P held it down with solid opening and closing sets.

BBC’s Essential Mix: Simian Mobile Disco

The first Essential Mix of the year comes from the very talented UK duo Jas Shaw and James Ford, collectively known as Simian Mobile Disco. Emerging from the ashes of the band Simian, these two caught fire by combining the propulsive groove of techno with basic rock dynamics to create unique productions and sought after remixes. Last October, the duo tore down Webster Hall with their synths, Moogs and drum machines, remixing their own dubs on the fly. This mix changes the pace, seamlessly grooving between minimal tech, dubstep and electro. Check out the tracklist and an XLR8R walk-through of their live studio rig after the jump and be sure to catch them when they return to NYC on March 11th at Le Poisson Rouge.
