Win Tickets to No Escape from New York with Trouble & Bass

Next Wednesday, Trouble & Bass is bringing us the first “No Escape From New York” of the new year. The celebrated monthly party is moving to The Studio at Webster Hall to accommodate No Escape’s growing audience and an impressive roster of hard-hitting acts.

Each month at No Escape, the Trouble & Bass crew, headed by The Captain, Drop the Lime, AC Slater and Star Eyes, will continue to spread their signature “heavy bass” style while bringing us noteworthy local and global acts.

The first event is staying true to its name with Brooklyn-based artists Uproot Andy and Ninjasonik. Originally from Columbia, Andy Gillis (aka Uproot Andy) blends his signature cumbia beats with electro-basslines, resulting in a global style that ranges from laid back tunes to dance floor thumpers. Uproot Andy puts a refreshing spin on the style we’ve come to expect from Trouble & Bass events; and while he might seem like an unusual choice, listen below for a subtle hint of wobble-wobble in his remix of “Manuelita”, a traditional-style Columbian bullerengue song:

Uproot Andy & Geko Jones – “Manuelita” (remix)

After seeing Ninjasonik at the Mercury Lounge last weekend, it would be difficult to capture their infectious energy in a written description. What we can tell you is that Ninjasonik is not for the faint-hearted. Led by Reverend McFly, Telli Gramz, and DJ Teenwolf, Ninjasonik storms the stage with a crew in tow, delivering a performance that includes both original songs and popular beats, not to mention constant crowd-surfing by band- and audience-members alike.

The HiFi Cartel is giving away two pairs of tickets to the show. Enter the contest after the jump or purchase advance tickets here.

A Nightcap With Trouble & Bass

After the Fixed Holiday Party, we headed Ella for a nightcap with the Trouble & Bass crew’s No Escape From New York. When we arrived, special guest Egyptrixx was behind the decks, trading songs with AC Slater, The Captain, and Star Eyes. The mood was silly and light; Gavin Royce showed us his frisky side while AC Slater gave us a gassy rendition of Emalkay’s “When I Look at You”. Check out a few photos from the night, and come back on Monday to win tickets to the Trouble & Bass and Mishka Holiday Party featuring Rico Tubbs.

Weekend Madness: Bassnectar, Fischerspooner, The Cool Kids, and More

This weekend is getting an early start when Dim Mak celebrates the release of Fischerspooner’s new single, “Supply & Demand”. With an open bar from 11-12 and $5 advanced tickets for the first 100 people to request an access code, there’s no excuse to miss the third installment of Dim Mak’s monthly NYC party “Cloak & Dagger“, especially when you throw in the musical stylings of Fischerspooner, Junior Sanchez, Ninjasonik and Hot Pink Delorean.

For a no-cover option on Thursday night, your best bet is to head over to “Ether” at Happy Endings where The Captain (of the Trouble & Bass Crew) will be playing a special doo-wop DJ set. We’re not exactly sure what that means, but it sounds intriguing.

If you haven’t already heard, Bassnectar is taking over Irving Plaza on Friday night, and we have the hook up on a pair of tickets and a copy of his eighth album, Cozza Frenzy. Click here to enter to win, or if you missed out, get advance tickets here. We caught Bassnectar at Street Scene in San Diego, and trust us, you do not want to miss this.

If you’re in more of a hip-hop mood, Girls & Boys is bringing The Cool Kids to Webster Hall for a special live performance. XXXChange of Spank Rock and David Berrie will also be spinning. Be sure to RSVP for $1 admission and $1 drinks before midnight.

And finally, after 5 years of radness, one party wasn’t enough of a celebration for Fixed, so on Saturday, they’re doing it all again. With a special live performance by british electronic quartet 2020 Soundsystem, JDH and Dave P are showing us just how far they can push the party.

Whew. Better get some rest… Fliers after the jump.

Trouble & Bass Celebrates Three-Year Anniversary with Skream and Benga

Last Saturday, the Trouble and Bass crew got down and dirty for their epic three-year anniversary celebration at Le Poisson Rouge. The night was off to a great start, with Drop the Lime, AC Slater, Star Eyes and The Captain alternating on the decks for the ultimate tag team set. The party heated up when 77Klash (whom we last saw with Major Lazer in June) jumped on the mic for a live performance, which included a version of Major Lazer’s “Pon De Floor” and a few songs from his upcoming EP, which will be released on T&B’s label.

The club was packed to capacity by the time Skream and Benga came on at 1:30. They kept their energy-packed set decidedly old-school, opting for CDJs and vinyl instead of a laptop. Highlights included Skream’s version of “In For The Kill” by La Roux and his official remix of Chromeo’s “Night by Night”. Ever the rock stars, Skream and Benga capped off the night by jumping into the audience for some crowd surfing.

Click here to check out Oliver Correa’s photos from the night. If you missed out on the party on Saturday, fret not – you can get your fill of dubstep when Caspa takes over Le Poisson Rouge this Wednesday.
