Weekend Madness: Bassnectar, Fischerspooner, The Cool Kids, and More

This weekend is getting an early start when Dim Mak celebrates the release of Fischerspooner’s new single, “Supply & Demand”. With an open bar from 11-12 and $5 advanced tickets for the first 100 people to request an access code, there’s no excuse to miss the third installment of Dim Mak’s monthly NYC party “Cloak & Dagger“, especially when you throw in the musical stylings of Fischerspooner, Junior Sanchez, Ninjasonik and Hot Pink Delorean.

For a no-cover option on Thursday night, your best bet is to head over to “Ether” at Happy Endings where The Captain (of the Trouble & Bass Crew) will be playing a special doo-wop DJ set. We’re not exactly sure what that means, but it sounds intriguing.

If you haven’t already heard, Bassnectar is taking over Irving Plaza on Friday night, and we have the hook up on a pair of tickets and a copy of his eighth album, Cozza Frenzy. Click here to enter to win, or if you missed out, get advance tickets here. We caught Bassnectar at Street Scene in San Diego, and trust us, you do not want to miss this.

If you’re in more of a hip-hop mood, Girls & Boys is bringing The Cool Kids to Webster Hall for a special live performance. XXXChange of Spank Rock and David Berrie will also be spinning. Be sure to RSVP for $1 admission and $1 drinks before midnight.

And finally, after 5 years of radness, one party wasn’t enough of a celebration for Fixed, so on Saturday, they’re doing it all again. With a special live performance by british electronic quartet 2020 Soundsystem, JDH and Dave P are showing us just how far they can push the party.

Whew. Better get some rest… Fliers after the jump.

Live from New York… it’s CMJ!

CMJ

We just caught a glimpse of the initial line-up for CMJ’s annual Music Marathon, and our heads are still spinning. The marathon, which takes place from October 20-24 in NYC, features up and coming artists in venues all over the city.

Last year, we went to a few shows during the marathon, including The Cool Kids, Crystal Castles and the Fool’s Gold Showcase. This year’s long list of artists – with hundreds more to be announced – includes Adam Tensta, Fool’s Gold, Hank and Cupcakes, Mickey Factz, Tommie Sunshine and Z-Trip. Kosha Dillz and Adam Deitch, who both made cameos during Matisyahu’s July concert in NYC, are also on the roster.

The registration badge gives you access to all CMJ Music Marathon & Film Festival events, including the concerts (on a space-available basis) and over 60 panel discussions centering on the music industry. Tickets are also available to individual concerts. For more information or to register, visit the official website.

Amanda Blank: I Love You

amanda-blank-i-love-you

Amanda Blank’s recently-released debut album,  I Love You, features the Cool Kids, Lykke Li, and Santigold. You’ve probably heard Amanda’s single “Might Like You Better” where she exults “I might like you better if we slept together.” Amanda’s prowess on stage at the Siren Music Festival and on tour with Santigold made us look forward to her debut album. Like her performances, the album is provocative and comes just in time to add to the summer heat. If this is her call for our attention then she certainly deserves it. With a fast pace of club beats and mixes, glazed with enticing lyrics, Amanda Blank wants your love for this album, and well… there’s no way we could like her better. This CD is so bad (as in a good way) that it serves a spanking for a listen.

The album is currently available on imeem. Click here to check it out.

APW Day 2 Highlights: The Cool Kids

IMG_003

The Cool Kids performed at All Points West on Saturday afternoon. Though they put on a good show, we preferred their performance at The Blender Theater last October, only because the small stage allowed them to interact more with each other. Their set included live mash-ups of “Mikey Rocks” with Queen’s “We Will Rock You”, and “88″ with Montell Jordan’s “This is How We Do It”.

If you want to see The Cool Kids in a more intimate setting, catch them at S.O.B.’s on August 30.
