Photo Gallery: Trouble & Bass No Escape from New York with Mumdance and Deathface (May 12, 2010)

The wobbles returned to The Studio at Webster Hall last Wednesday when Trouble & Bass took over for their monthly staple. Mumdance showed us what he meant by “Kerplunk” with a diverse set that included dubstep, grime, and a drum n bass version of the theme from “Love Story”. Deathface (sans blood) brought us pure, unadulterated dubstep that had the crowd in The Studio getting down and dirty until the late hours. As usual, the Trouble & Bass crew – Drop the Lime, The Captain, Star Eyes and AC Slater – delivered a solid tag team set to open and close the night.

Don’t miss AC Slater tonight for the debut of Girls & Boys’ Planet Rocka. RSVP HERE for $1 admission before midnight.

Trouble & Bass No Escape from New York Returns Tomorrow with Deathface and Mumdance

It’s that time of the month, which means that tomorrow night, Trouble & Bass will once again take over The Studio at Webster Hall with No Escape From New York. This month’s installment will be celebrating the release of The Horror, the new EP from special guest Deathface. The Horror, which is out today, is the first release from Deathface, newly signed to Trouble & Bass. The EP will feature five original tracks – all produced in 2010 – that Trouble & Bass describes as a “darker, dirtier and almost demonic dubstep sound”. More info and links to purchase the EP HERE. Check out “Theme to Deathface” below, and head over to the Mad Decent blog for additional tracks and remixes.

Coming at us from London, this month’s other featured guest, Mumdance, has upcoming releases on both Mad Decent and Trouble & Bass. He calls his new sound “Kerplunk” (also the title of his upcoming Mad Decent EP): “I named the sound Kerplunk! because it sounds like the old school kids game when all the marbles fall out. With Kerplunk! Part One I decided to strip everything right down & and do a golden era 8 Bar Grime track with a Kerplunk! breakdown.” Check it out for yourself below.

As always, the Trouble & Bass crew – The Captain, Drop the Lime, Star Eyes and AC Slater – will be your hosts and resident DJs for the night. Come by early for 2-for-1 PBRs and free Prometheus Springs from 10-11 PM; admission is only $7 if you RSVP in advance or if you wear your T&B t-shirt, otherwise it’s $10 at the door. CLICK HERE TO RSVP, and be sure to check out photos from our last encounter with Deathface at the Trouble & Bass Temple of Boom in Miami.

And for a double dose of Trouble & Bass this week, don’t miss AC Slater when he joins Moby, Neon Indian and Arthur Baker on the main stage at Webster Hall this Friday for GBH’s weekly party, Girls & Boys. CLICK HERE TO RSVP for $1 reduced admission before midnight, but be forewarned – the only way to guarantee admission is with advance tickets (available HERE). This is gonna be a big one, folks.

No Escape from New York Returns with 12th Planet and Flinch

This Wednesday, Trouble & Bass‘ No Escape from New York returns to The Studio at Webster Hall with special guests 12th Planet and Flinch. 12th Planet (aka John Dadzie) got his start in the drum & bass scene as Infiltrata. He evolved into 12th Planet when his sound – inspired by the likes of Skream, Benga and Technical Itch – took a turn towards dubstep, with influences of electro and hip hop.

Flinch (aka Adam Glassco) got his start with the LA-based electro team True Pseudo, that also counts 12th Planet as a member. On his own, Flinch has been breaking genre barriers with what RCRDLBL calls “Dutch Step”, a cross between cumbia dubstep and Dutch house.

As always, the Trouble & Bass Crew – The Captain, Star Eyes, AC Slater and Drop the Lime – will shake the walls with their bass-heavy beats. This is a party you don’t want to miss.

CLICK HERE to RSVP for reduced $5 admission. When you RSVP you will be automatically entered to win a pair of tickets to the party. To prepare for the madness, listen to 12th Planet and Flinch’s remix of Dave Nada’s Apocalypse Theme (streamed below), and be sure download the third installment of the Trouble & Bass Smashcast, which is free on iTunes.

Trouble & Bass will be taking over Miami at the end of the month with some massive events. Check out the HiFi Cartel Guide to the Winter Music Conference for more.

Win Tickets to No Escape from New York with Trouble & Bass

Next Wednesday, Trouble & Bass is bringing us the first “No Escape From New York” of the new year. The celebrated monthly party is moving to The Studio at Webster Hall to accommodate No Escape’s growing audience and an impressive roster of hard-hitting acts.

Each month at No Escape, the Trouble & Bass crew, headed by The Captain, Drop the Lime, AC Slater and Star Eyes, will continue to spread their signature “heavy bass” style while bringing us noteworthy local and global acts.

The first event is staying true to its name with Brooklyn-based artists Uproot Andy and Ninjasonik. Originally from Columbia, Andy Gillis (aka Uproot Andy) blends his signature cumbia beats with electro-basslines, resulting in a global style that ranges from laid back tunes to dance floor thumpers. Uproot Andy puts a refreshing spin on the style we’ve come to expect from Trouble & Bass events; and while he might seem like an unusual choice, listen below for a subtle hint of wobble-wobble in his remix of “Manuelita”, a traditional-style Columbian bullerengue song:

Uproot Andy & Geko Jones – “Manuelita” (remix)

After seeing Ninjasonik at the Mercury Lounge last weekend, it would be difficult to capture their infectious energy in a written description. What we can tell you is that Ninjasonik is not for the faint-hearted. Led by Reverend McFly, Telli Gramz, and DJ Teenwolf, Ninjasonik storms the stage with a crew in tow, delivering a performance that includes both original songs and popular beats, not to mention constant crowd-surfing by band- and audience-members alike.

The HiFi Cartel is giving away two pairs of tickets to the show. Enter the contest after the jump or purchase advance tickets here.
