Photo Gallery: Friday Double Header with The Twelves and Miike Snow

After a ten-week absence, I celebrated my return to NYC with a killer double header. The night started at Good Units with Fixed’s JDH and The Twelves, then the party continued at Webster Hall, where Girls & Boys was in full swing with a DJ set by Karlsson & Winnberg of Miike Snow.

Fixed Weekend Double Header: The Twelves and Simian Mobile Disco

Get ready, because Fixed has a huge weekend in store for us with two awesome back-to-back parties with The Twelves on Friday and Simian Mobile Disco on Saturday. We’re giving away a pair of tickets to each event, enter the contest after the jump.

On Friday, Brazilian duo The Twelves will hit up Good Units, along with Fixed’s JDH. One of the coolest things about The Twelves (other than their music) is their insane ability to remix on the fly. On a side-note, their remix for The Black Kids’ “I’m Not Gonna Teach Your Boyfriend How To Dance With You” was featured on the last season of Glee, and (as far as I know) is the only remix that has ever been featured on the show.

BBC Essential Mix: The Twelves

The party continues on Saturday night with Simian Mobile Disco, who will be DJing at Public Assembly with JDH and Dave P. The duo has recently released the music video for their latest single, Gizzard. CLICK HERE to check it out.

Based on past experience, with both The Twelves and Simian Mobile Disco (not to mention the always consistent Fixed residents JDH and Dave P) we forecast an awesome weekend for all. Advance tickets can be purchased HERE for The Twelves and HERE for Simian Mobile Disco. And of course, our friends at Fixed have hooked us up with a pair of tickets to each show to give away to our readers. Fill out the form below to enter the contest — each person can enter the contest twice, once for each event.

Photo Gallery: The Twelves are FIXED at Highline Ballroom (April 21, 2011)

Brazilian mix masters João Miguel and Luciano Oliveira set Highline Ballroom on fire last Thursday with their signature electro funk remixes. The Twelves are no stranger to NYC dropping by twice in the past year, yet the city keeps begging for more. Their thumping sets always wash waves of euphoria across the crowd and we really can’t wait for their return!

Contest: Win Tickets to FIXED this week with The Twelves & Pantha Du Prince

New York City’s music scene has yet another great week ahead of it, with the Fixed guys offering up two back to back events featuring some awesome talent. Thursday night, April 21, The Twelves are playing live at Highline Ballroom, which is guaranteed to be a riot. Last time The Twelves were in the city, they tore the roof off of a sold-out Good Units, so be sure to buy your ticket in advance, or at least get there early. The next night, Friday, April 22, Pantha Du Prince and The Sight Below are both performing live at Good Units, bringing their unique electronic conceptions to the subterranean space. Fixed residents JDH & Dave P will warm up both nights, so rest up early in the week while you still can!

Check out photos from The Twelves at Santos Party house last April HERE.

We have two tickets to give away for both events on Twitter. Tweet the following messages to win a pair of tickets to either show. You must be following both HiFi CartelFixed to win.

Photo Gallery: The Twelves and Grum at Canal Rubber (April 29, 2010)

On Thursday night, The Twelves, Grum and Fixed residents JDH & Dave P played to a sold-out crowd at Santos Party House for their weekly party, Canal Rubber. JDH & Dave P had the crowd in a fervor early on, ready for Grum’s synth-pop set. As The Twelves prepared to take over, Grum played one of his best-known remixes, “To Kingdom Come” by Passion Pit, The Twelves ad-libbed a few chords on one of two keyboards, which they ran through Abelton.

The Twelves (João Miguel and Luciano Oliveira) set the energy level on high and held it there throughout their set. The Brazilian duo dropped hit after hit, mashing and remixing on the fly. Highlights included “Eleanor Rigby” (The Beatles), “Hearts on Fire” (Cut Copy), “Thriller” (Michael Jackson), “Sexy Boy” (Air) and “House of Jealous Lovers” (The Rapture). They used the keyboards mainly as mixers/controllers throughout the set, but incorporated the keys during their own remixes of “Reckoner” (Radiohead), “Boyz” (M.I.A.), “I’m Not Gonna Teach Your Boyfriend How to Dance with You” (The Black Kids), and “In for the Kill” (La Roux).

SXSW Announces Initial Line-Up

sxsw09

After taking on CMJ, The Electric Zoo, Street Scene, All Points West, and the Winter Music Conference in 2009, it seems only natural to add South by Southwest to our growing itinerary for 2010.

Last year, the festival drew 12,000 participants and showcased nearly 2,000 musical acts on 88 stages. The 2009 line-up included AC Slater, Amanda Blank, Buraka Som Sistema, Deadmau5, The Golden Filter, Grizzly Bear, Ben Harper & Relentless7, Jack Beats, MSTRKRFT and The Twelves, among others.

Now in its 24th year, the annual SXSW Music Conference and Festival will be held in Austin from March 17-21. The initial line-up of 450+ artists is likely to quadruple by March, and already includes Treasure Fingers, Kidz in the Hall, HEARTSREVOLUTION, Team Facelift, Adam Tensta and The Postelles. Chauffeur is also rumored to make a rare appearance at the festival, but is yet to be confirmed.

Music badges cost $675 if you register by January 12, and will allow you to participate in all of the official SXSW music parties, panels, and courses. Click here for a full list of badge levels, rates and details about the programs that the badges include. While the price tag might seem a little steep, it includes five full days of music with nearly 2,000 acts (which, if you do the math, breaks down to less than five cents per artist).

Don’t forget, the Winter Music Conference kicks off the following week in Miami (March 23-27), so plan accordingly. But more on that later…
